Grassroots Competition Specific Drift Car Rules

– Vehicle must be Rear Wheel Drive
– NO vehicles that are in the Formula Drift Pro-Am, Formula Drift Pro or Pro2 Series
– Any vehicle with any active or future Formula Drift competition in this calendar year is not allowed!
– Rear Tires Maximum width 245 must be clearly labeled on sidewall of the tire
– Front Tires are open to any size
– No quick change rear differentials allowed
– No Dog Box or Sequential Transmissions allowed
– Drivers cannot switch vehicles during Qualifying or Competition
– Must pass Vehicle Tech Inspection Rules at http://www.DarkLotus.ca

Round 1 (March 21st-22nd) Tandem Drift Competition Top 32 Schedule

Day 1 Morning Practice, Afternoon Qualifying, Open Drift if time allows
Day 2 Morning Practice, Late Morning Top 32 Start, Podium Ceremony
(Another drift course layout will be running for drivers who
get knocked out of competition and still want to drift)

Driver Entry Fee

$300 for Competition Drivers for (Two) Both days Qualifying and Competition!
Includes Camping at the Race Track for the driver and maximum
of 3 Pit Crew Team Members!

$100 Per Day for Practice Only Drivers
Practice only Drivers will be limited to the secondary track Layout we have going at the top end of the drag strip during Qualifying and Competition.

Once Qualifying is done the first day the main track will be open to all drivers for Open Drift Practice!
Once Competition and Podium ceremony is done on the 2nd day the main track will be open to all drivers for practice.

Track Rules & Safety   <—- NOTE READ THESE ASWELL

Driver Safety & Gear Requirements

A) Snell, Ece 2010 or newer helmet Only! *DOT* only approved helmets will not be accepted and driver will not be able to participate in the event helmets must also be in good condition no cracks or damage to the shell. Loaner helmets will **NOT** be available at the events.

B) Drivers & Passengers ( Drivers you will be 100% accountable for yourself & your passengers safety gear requirements. If we catch you or your passengers not meeting them you will be warned, or we may ask you to leave the event.) must have the minimum for Clothing Full Length Pants, Sleeved T-shirt and Closed Toed Shoes are required by any Driver or Passenger.

C) Any loose items in the vehicle including floor mats or aftermarket audio systems must be removed. (A professional install properly secured can pass at tech inspectors judgement)

D) All vehicles must be equipped with a minimum 2.5 lbs fire extinguisher, firmly mounted and within the drivers reach mounted with a secure metal bracket.
we recommend a 5 lbs fire extinguisher.

E) Drugs and Alcohol will not be tolerated on the track premises under any circumstances.

Chassis

A) All modifications done to a vehicle must be done in a safe, professional manner. Modifications will be looked at. If the Tech Inspector deems something unsafe such as, poor welds, sharp jagged edges, a fire hazard, etc. You may be refused the right to go on track.

B) No Loose, Blown or Saggy Suspension.

C) Aftermarket suspension arms, alignment compensation brackets, and steering linkages must all be torqued to proper specifications.

D) Steering system and linkages must be in proper working order with no leaks.

E) Steering wheel and seats must be securely fastened. Quick release steering wheels must be free of excessive play in the hub.

F) Rear mount radiators; must be separated from person cabin by a firewall constructed from either aluminum or steel. Plumbing must run either under the underside of the vehicle or be sufficiently shielded from a burst if the line is running through the passenger cabin.

Engine, Engine Bay & Driveline

A) Leaking fluids from beneath the vehicle will not be tolerated. If you have leaks that can’t be stopped a sufficient belly pan with proper absorbent pads must be in place and mounted securely. This will have to be checked and okayed by our Tech Officials.

B) Modifications to the engine must not interfere with required safety systems (brakes, steering, etc) of the vehicle.

C) Engine modifications must also not create a fire or fluid leakage hazard.

D) Vehicles with transplanted engines must have all intake channels, intercooler piping (if present), and exhaust piping properly secured to the vehicle.

E) The intake, air cleaner system must be adequately secured to the frame of the vehicle with proper fasteners.

F) **sticky throttle cables are a serious hazard, it will be checked that your throttle cable can function the full 100% travel of the throttle body with very little resistance on the return. It must be routed securely away from the manifolds or areas the cable could melt, bind or cause other issues.

G) Your exhaust must be securely mounted to the under chassis of the vehicle and not dragging on the ground. N/A or Turbo equipped vehicles with downpipes running close to brake masters within 4″ we require a heat shield around the master cylinder or brake booster. Vehicles must be equipped with some sort of exhaust/muffler(unless equipped with a turbo), header dumps won’t be tolerated out of respect for our local neighbors.

H) All vehicles must have at least one Tow Hook or (tow point) accessible at both the front and rear of the vehicle.

I) Overall the engine bay must appear clean with no loose and exposed wires. Lines should be tied back were applicable. Excessively long spark plug leads should also be tied back as well as all caps on reservoirs.

J) Sealed catch can units only please. Properly plumbed

Body

A) Windows and windshields must be free of cracks or breaks that impair drivers vision or safety, as they are a big part of the structural integrity of a non roll caged vehicle.

B) The body of a vehicle must be able to adequately protect the driver and others, No Structural rust, or torn open panels.

C) We want to see complete vehicles at the track. We understand these are drift cars but this is a spectator’s sport and you guys are putting on the show, the more complete the better. Completely disintegrated cars will be denied through tech also at the Tech Inspectors discretion.

D) All vehicles must have at least one working windshield wiper for cleaning the drivers view.

E) Hood must properly latch closed using factory hood latch or Hood pins

Roll Cages

A) Roll cages must be constructed from minimum 1 ½” x .095” DOM tubing/ or 1 ½ “x .083” chromoly. If vehicle is in excess of 3500lbs main hoop, A- pillars, door bars, and rear stays must be constructed from 1 ¾” tubing. For more roll cage specifics please refer to our roll cage rules for competition in the competition rules section.

B) Vehicles with inner door skins removed are required to have door bars

C) **ALL CONVERTIBLES, SOFT TOPS and HARD TOPS must have a minimum of a 4 point roll bar meeting proper roll cage specifications for the weight of the vehicle.

D) If your helmet is within touching distance of any bars we require those bars to be padded.

E) If you would like some more specifics such as bar placements etc. please refer to the roll cage section 2.2 of the 2020 FD technical inspection requirements rulebook listed at https://www.formulad.com/rulebook

Fuel Systems

A) If using a fuel cell please refer to our competition tech rules for specifics. Fuel system must be free of leaks and have a proper sealing cap. Fuel lines must be secured away from underside of frame rails and headers

B) The fuel system of the vehicle must be responding properly and free of any leaks. Any wiring or tubing associated with the fuel delivery or ignition system must be clear of hot areas and covered to prevent potential fire hazards. If your vehicle has a sending unit cover factory, We will require it to be in place

C) Cars with fuel cells or altered fuel systems, such as an external fuel pump,  However must have a firewall separating driver from fuel cell compartment. Firewall must be constructed from a minimum .036″ steal or .065″ Aluminum.
Questionable wiring jobs may be denied track access.

Harnesses & Seatbelts

A) If using a 4 or 5 point harness it must be securely bolted or wrapped to a harness bar with a maximum of 10° up or on a downward angle.

B) If you are not using harnesses your stock seat belts must retain factory mounting positions.

Lighting

A) All vehicles must have a working brake light and headlights. If a person does not wish to Tandem hazards will be required

Wheels and Tires

A) All drivers must have 2 spare mounted tires that are not used on the course to drive home or load vehicle on trailer.

B) Aftermarket wheels and tires must not rub against the fender of the vehicle where it’s going to damage a Tire or interfere with Steering

C) All lug nuts must be in place with a proper amount of torque on each wheel stud, (this will be decided at the tech inspectors discretion)

D) We do not want to see any wheel spacers larger than 2″. If running large spacers we would also like to see them be hub centric. All adapter nuts and lug nuts must be torqued to stud/vehicle requirements.

Brake and Braking systems

A) Brake systems must be free of leaks

B) If running aftermarket Hydraulic Handbrakes, or lines and fittings, they must be ran in a clean and organized fashion with no chance of rubbing.

C) Poor or Improper functioning brakes will be denied access to track days

D) We ask that every vehicle has a cable locking handbrake incase of emergencies ie. Brake failure or a fire. We don’t want a vehicle rolling down track out of control.

Battery & Electrical Systems

A) If the battery is not in factory position with factory bolt downs, battery must be secured as well or better than factory. If using a standard acid battery, it must be mounted and sealed in a vented box out of the person’s vehicle cabin. Power terminal must be covered with proper electrical insulation under all circumstances

B) If vehicle has after-market wiring (not in OEM factory Loom) wiring must be clean and tidy with proper fuses and relays put in place. Wiring must not be loose and exposed to feet or chances of possible shorting. Speaker wire will not be allowed in replacement for wiring repairs.

C) If you have a relocated battery. We require a minimum 50amp fuse breaker to be wired in place within 12 inches of the battery.

Track Rules & Safety

One driver per Registration!
You can share cars but both drivers have to pay and register to drive.

Speed limit 15km 10mph everywhere except for when released onto the track “Hot Zone”

Race cars have the right away. Be careful & Be aware of your surroundings pay attention!

No drifting or brake slides off the track, return roads or in the pits or in any “Cold Zone”

Please keep arms and limbs, phones & go pro sticks in the car on the track at all times

you will be warned and then asked to leave the event.

When and if you go off course. You must yield to the cars on the track in a safe and controlled manner.

Please no spinning out, drifting,or burn outs in the grass or gravel!

No standing burn outs. Must be rolling at all times on track only

Please keep helmet and safety belts on until you are fully off the track “Hot Zone”

A Track Official will send you at the Start Line

and there will be some one at the exit to guide you off track on most courses

Watch for the flags :

-Green for go.

-Red for stop.

-Yellow caution.

-Checkered for finish.

All drivers must have proper driving gear pants. shoes. shirts. helmet and any other gear your car may need depending on the type of Event. See tech Rules.

No muscles shirts or open toed shoes. for passengers and drivers

Drivers are responsible for their Passengers to follow the rules.

You may be warned or asked to leave the Event.

All passengers and drivers must sign in and have a visible wristband from the tech area

All drivers and passengers must be 16 years of age and be able to prove it at the discretion of Mission Raceway or Dark Lotus Drift Team

No drugs or alcohol.

Please be respectful for the crowd when smoking

All dogs must be on leash and be under control

we don’t want to see someones dog getting hit by a car.

No riding on cars in the pits

Please be respectful of the grounds and facilities

Drivers and passengers must stay in the car when in the staging area. Please have your passenger in the car before going in to staging lanes. If we see you switching passengers in the staging lanes you will be asked to leave the event.

All rules and consequences. Are at Mission Raceway and Dark Lotus Drift Team’s discretion.
